frequently asked questions..

Where are Ocean Studios? I’ve been to markets in Royal William Yard in the past but don’t know where to find Ocean studios.

Although we are pretty easy to find once you are in the know, this is one of the most commonly asked questions..

Due to restoration work on the Melville Building in Royal William Yard, Ocean Studios is temporarily obscured from view from the main entrance by hoardings. To find us, walk through the Main Gate, straight on past the Green on your left and the Marina on your right - Ocean Studios is on your left. Congratulations - you’ve found us! You can enter either through the side door into the Column Bakehouse Cafe or through Made at 140 at the front of the building.

Once I’m in Ocean Studios & The Column Bakehouse, how do I find the market?

Ocean Artists Designers Makers Market is held in the Emerge & Event Spaces on the first floor and in the Column Bakehouse Cafe on the ground floor. The Factory Cooperage is a beautiful, Grade 1 listed building and therefore slightly quirky in a good way! There will be plenty of signage on the day pointing you in the direction of the stairs and the lift to the upper level, the Column Bakehouse and Yard Workshops. Volunteers in unreasonably bright t-shirts will be on hand to direct you if in doubt.

Is it dog-friendly?

Yes. You are welcome to bring well-behaved dogs into both the event and the Column Bakehouse Cafe.

How do I get a stall at Ocean artists designers makers markets?

To apply for an event and for information on display space and pricing go to ‘how to apply’ on the website and click on the ‘apply’ tab for the market you require.

How much does a stall cost?

Costs of display spaces are dependent on the number of days and size of the stall required. We endeavour to keep costs down as much as possible and put a large percentage of stall holder fees back into marketing for the events. Prices currently range from £35 - £75.

Can I run a workshop at one of your events?

As long as you have public liability insurance we'd love to hear from you. We offer a concessionary rate for workshops to encourage a range of creativity at our events. Please email and let us know what you do.

Do I need insurance to sell at Ocean artists designers makers markets?

Yes. Having public liability insurance is extremely important to cover yourself and your customers. We do not accept any stall holders who do not have public liability insurance.

Can I perform at one of your markets?

Absolutely! We have a small space for solo artists and other acts. Please email us at hello@ocean-markets.co.uk and give us an idea of what you do. Unfortunately, we cannot pay performers but we will promote you across our social media platforms.

How do you promote your markets?

We promote our markets mainly through Facebook, Instagram, listings sites, newspapers and local magazines. In addition to this, we advertise throughout the City, the South Hams, South Dartmoor and South East Cornwall and distribute over 4,000 flyers per event.

We run an extensive campaign prior to the event featuring our stall holders and their work on social media and encourage stall holders and media partners to promote the event on their socials.

Can I write about Ocean artists designers makers market?

Of course! Please email us at hello@ocean-markets.co.uk for a press release and any questions you may have.

I’m interested in volunteering at one of your events - how do I get in touch?

We’d love to hear from you. Drop us a line at hello@ocean-markets.co.uk, let us know a little about yourself, contact details and which days/times you would be available and we will get back to you pronto.

How do I become a guest blogger on your site?

We love to have a collection of different writers on our blog whether you're a maker, artist, designer, sculptor, musician or dolphin trainer - we'd love to share your creative tales. Please email us with your ideas.

I saw an amazing stall holder at one of your events, and I can't track them down!

You can either check out our gallery (or meet the makers) and click on the image of the stall holder for their website link or email us at hello@ocean-markets.co.uk for more information.

Where can I expect to find Ocean events taking place?

We hold our main events three times a year at Ocean Studios in Royal William Yard and have plans to expand - watch this space!
